The Effect of Awareness and Education to The Community on The Plastic Waste Population at The Tanjung Harapan Nunukan Landfill

Abstract

Waste is a leftover material from activities that is thrown away as a result of the production process, both in industry and households. Waste is a very common problem in the global community, as well as what happens in Nunukan, precisely in the Tanjung Harapan Nunukan landfill. The purpose of this study is to find out how public awareness in the Tanjung Harapan Landfill and what education is provided to the people of the Tanjung Harapan Nunukan Landfill related to the increasing waste population in the area. The research method used is qualitative research with descriptive observational design. Research techniques were carried out by means of field surveys, focus group discussions involving participants, and open interviews. The participants used in this study are residents living around the Tanjung Harapan Landfill and the Nunukan community. The results of the study stated that in several parts of the area in Nunukan seminars or education have been carried out about plastic waste processing and also the dangers of plastic waste that continues to accumulate. However, the provision of education to the community is not enough to cover all parts of the Nunukan area, so there are still many people who are not aware of this. The hope in the future is that education to the people of Nunukan can be carried out more widely so that awareness of the Nunukan community grows, so that the population of plastic waste in the Tanjung Harapan landfill can be reduced.
